Actually, I understand where Walker Evans was coming from. He was a great Great Depression-era photographer... and his portraits of Americans and their meager existence are moving. He found no amusement in cats.

@BobHorowitz That's what I meant - My guess was that he was one of the class of photographer who tries to take photos that effuse the human condition.

Sometimes that involves a beach!

@crtbrown I'm guessing you have seen Evans photos. Yes, it is serious stuff. I would say powerful, reflective, documentarian. But not for everyone. That's fine.
