This project was for a gift exchange, so I couldn't share it until now. It's a (large!) laptop bag/backpack with 100 LEDs in the front flap arranged in a Fibonacci spiral (inspired by @jasoncoon ) and diffused through a Voronoi arrangement of 3D printed translucent black PETG tiles.
@geekmomprojects @jasoncoon That's awesome! are you sharing the plans anywhere? I have tow little girls that would love something similar. :D And between my wife and I we might even have the skills to pull it off.
@[email protected] I wrote up a similar project in great detail in Make: magazine vol. 87. This project uses almost the same technique, with the main difference being the shape and arrangement of the tiles, and the use of clear black filament (Atomic Filament smoky gray PETG) for the tiles, vs translucent white. If you want to make a bag with the Fibonacci tiles, then I can let you have the STL file for the tiles and the pattern that needs to be laser cut or cut out with a vinyl cutter from the fabric.
@[email protected] Also, the LED string for the Fibonacci bag has 3cm led spacing, and clear resin over the LEDs. I'd strongly recommend reading the Make article, and if you want to make a bag with the Fibonacci pattern, I can send you the design files, and a link to buy the LED strings. I don't have an actual pattern for the laptop bag itself, but you should be able to find something similar online.
@geekmomprojects Thanks a ton for all the details! I’ll look up the magazine! We don’t have a laser cutter, but we do have a small vinyl cutter.
@[email protected] a vinyl cutter will work fine for this project.
