Big shakeup with Field Yates reporting that the members of Goose follow John Kimock, and Adrian has a loyal friendship with Ben.

Now let’s handicap the field:

Sterling - One of the first rumored replacements. Smoke/fire and all that. Would provide a fresh creative direction. The only question is how would he hold up improvising for long stretches without a net in front of 5,000 people. Also, at 43yo he’s a decade older than most of the band.

Kimock - I’m probably biased bc his dad stopped touring with world-class drummers to put him in the band. Always found him to be a poor listener with a very busy style.

1/x

2/x

LaForest - Dude is a spectacular drummer who was part of Spafford when Spafford looked like they had big things ahead of them before he was abruptly replaced by their OG drummer. He’s the right age, and he’s pretty. This would be my preference, but I’m not betting on it because god never listens to what I say.

Tramontano - Don’t know anything about him except people I trust say he’s fantastic. But he’s not pretty or nerdy. Tough fit.

3/x

Arevelo - Played drums in Vasudo though his performances in Goose might make one question his motor as it always appeared Ben was doing all the work. Was this by design and Jeff held back?

Myers - The Ben/Myers trade makes way too much sense for everyone involved until you think about Kris yelling at Rick on the talkback mics while he’s in the middle of a 27 minute guitar solo with his eyes closed.

4/x

Bailey - Dream scenario, but would he give up his Eggy dreams? Is he too much of an alpha to be second fiddle to Rick?

Lane - Not sure why this is rumored or what the connections are. Solid drummer but feels like a big step down from Ben. Also a very odd age fit

Weinberg - Not sure how the style fits, but apparently he’s talented and unemployed

Molo - Dude has a style a lot like Ben, but he’s quite old. Very old.

5/x

Russo - Russo doesn’t play nearly as many JRAD shows as he could so he can do more passion projects. And he makes $$$ with JRAD. He’s not adding 75+ Goose shows per year.

Altman - LOL

Hertz/Holmes - Both would be spectacular. Both are pipe dreams from middle-aged balding dudes (aka Goose’s core demographic)

Nance - Dude got kicked out of Panic for a better drummer for reasons unknown. Goose isn’t signing WSP’s sloppy seconds.

6/6

Billy K - No juggernaut is signing a cantankerous, out-of-shape old dude to take them to the promised land. This isn’t the New York Jets.

Zwang - An early favorite but has since denied interest on Instagram while making ill-advised posts about the Middle East that are unbecoming of a high profile position.

So far it seems like the best bet is on the field for someone to come out of nowhere.

Well, we’ve just been informed that Todd Nance is dead. That would disqualify him from the competition. We’ll fix that in the next update.

Cameron LaForest has been spotted practicing Goose songs. Time to update the big board.

@chopaganda If Gordon loses Kimock to Goose after losing Walter to Waters… I don’t know, maybe he’s tanking for lottery picks.
@maxellxlii90 @chopaganda ditching the cactus band to go play for a former Floyd (even a crazy asshole one) is almost as easy a call as Belew leaving Zappa's nerdy little dick-joke show to play with Bowie. But to lose a moderately talented drummer to a tier band - even an up and comer like Goose - would have to sting pretty hard. But the reality is Goose gigs a lot and is playing a class of venue where the money is more than solid. Especially if he'd get a band cut and not sideman rate.
@mrcompletely @chopaganda It actually makes a lot of sense and I bet they trust Mike’s assessment of a drummer more than their own ability to do so. It would be a big step up for Kimock and would definitely sting for MGB, especially since Kimock wouldn’t be as valuable a player without his time with Gordon. Very interesting trade to consider.

@maxellxlii90 @mrcompletely Honestly don’t think Mike’s assessment matters to anyone in the band. They are going to choose who they like based on talent and personality fit.

As for Kimock, would you rather play a dozen club gigs every couple years with a bunch of old dudes or 75+ 3K-10K room gigs per year with people your own age?

@chopaganda @maxellxlii90 yeah from a business perspective it's a no brainer, that's what I was getting at
@mrcompletely @chopaganda @maxellxlii90 Playing for Mike is whatever it is. Surely there’s appeal as a musician but it’s no full time gig. Walters went to work for a couple years with Waters and probably paid some fucking bills.
Going to work for Goose will probably pay solidly and consistently for the upcoming year. If you don’t hate the music, it’s a solid career move.
@rowjimmy @mrcompletely @chopaganda Not arguing the business decision! It’s a very smart move for Goose and Kimock.
@chopaganda @mrcompletely They wouldn’t consider Kimock (even in theory) if he wasn’t Mike’s drummer. I think he’s got some Phish branding on him now and that’s a huge appeal.
@maxellxlii90 @mrcompletely So you’re saying they wouldn’t consider drummers unless there is a Phish tie? Seems weird.
@chopaganda @mrcompletely Absolutely not saying that, bit of a stretch. I’m saying his experience with Mike is another checkmark in the “pro” column.
@chopaganda @mrcompletely To clarify - MGB gave lil Kimock the exposure to even be in this conversation.
