In between illness, work and family staying, it’s taken me over a week to get the loom warped up for some more #TabletWeaving. This week is the Cambridge diamonds pattern, which immediately caught my eye as a current Cambridge resident. Trying out swivels this time too for the twist.

After a slightly weird start, the diamonds are coming out regular and consistent (seems to want a very strong beat down!), really pleased with it 😍

I’m getting better at this - took me a moment, but managed to fix a problem that appeared after winding on and moving back the twist, after which I lost a bunch of tension. Very pleased with the decision to add sliding knots to adjust the warp tension for individual cards at will - although it’s another point of failure, any slack can be very quickly isolated and taken out! #TabletWeaving #weaving
@cenococcum this looks great, fantastic pattern! I too, have trouble with patterns that need a strong beat. I'm doing a brocade right now that needs it, and I always feel like I'm putting in too much force, but it doesn't look right unless I do.

@cyber_shifter Thanks! I’m very new to tablet weaving, so there’s a big element of trial and error - luckily for this pattern, there’s a photo of an example, so I could quickly see that the diamonds are elongated without beating hard.

Definitely want to try brocade at some point, but need to get a little better first - still struggling to maintain even tension on the warp. In retrospect, sliding knots to adjust tension have been more trouble than they’re worth - they’ve been slipping a lot 😓

@cenococcum I do circular warps or warp weighted (which is also a PITA but delivers pristine tension conditions.) Learning to gauge the right tension is still something I struggle with, and I've been doing it a couple years.

@cyber_shifter Kind of relieving to hear it can take that long to get right, takes a bit of the pressure off trying to get it dialled in perfectly now (I definitely have a bit of a perfectionist paralysis that I need to push past).

Have been curious about trying out warp weighted, but somehow don’t think it will play well with two cats in the house 😅 With the circular warp there’s really not much they can mess up!

@cenococcum yeah, I had to train my cat to behave around the looms. It took a little time.

The trouble with tension is both the tension of the whole warp and the tension bar, AND the tension of how much you pull each weft. It all interacts. You just eventually get a feel for it.
