@benkap Oct 7 came after a decade plus of "managing" the conflict with a brutal siege and cycles of retaliation by the IDF in Gaza. Why expect that more of the same will make Israelis safer?
I think that Oct 7 made it clear that the only thing that will make Israelis safer is a negotiated settlement. A permanent cease fire on humanitarian grounds is a necessary first step towards restoring the ability of both parties to negotiate. The alternative is more and more death.
@benkap Oct 7th was the consequence of the Netanyahu government's rejection of a negotiated solution. The Right has had most of twenty years to implement its policies of delivering security by "undoing the Oslo disaster" and bombing Gaza into submission, and the result is that security is worse than ever. These are the policies brought the worst actual disaster in Israeli history. It is time for something else. We have definitive proof that military action and occupation cannot bring security.
@alter_kaker Netanyahu and his cohort certainly bear responsibility for the security situation leading up to October 7th. That said, "managing" the conflict while leaving Hamas in power, and even supporting them, is not the same as attempting to remove them as the unrivaled military power in Gaza.
@alter_kaker It's naive to believe that any negotiated solution can work as long as Hamas is in power. They are not retaliating against a siege, that is the story their apologists tell the world. They are an extremist terrorist organization that will be satisfied by nothing less than Israel's destruction.
@benkap you don't have to tell me Hamas is bad. But this war is only making it stronger. That's why they instigated it.
@alter_kaker I think Hamas' expected response was exactly what you're proposing: a negotiation. I don't think they actually expected Israel to have such an intense military response while they held hostages. They certainly benefit in certain ways from this war, but even they understand that this is a net loss for them, not a gain.

They are there, the facts clearly show, in order to kill the civilian population, as mandated by Zionism's racist ideology. And as done for decades, while pretending to be the "most moral" army in the world. No matter how many bombs and billions Israel receives from the american government, most of the world no longer swallows israeli lies.
