Continuing after last Christmas, I was able to visit #TheChurchWorkshop for a second #Makation. Originally we had planned to continue the project we conceptualised last year, however on my last expedition I had another project idea that came in between. It was meant to just take a short time but of course… it took over the entire time. But I loved the opportunity to learn precision work (0.01 mm accuracy on a fairly old lathe with limited measurement tools)
The challenge was: my consumption on fizzy and/or alcoholic beverages is much slower and of much smaller quantities than what most people have. So it would be nice to have my own cup that makes it easier getting a portion size that suits me. It should be two sided, one ~espresso cup sized and one even smaller.
I have been eager to do some work on the lathe, metal seemed like a good material and we found a nice chunk of square aluminium rod in the metal leftovers box.

The restriction of working with leftovers is always a challenge I enjoy and I loved the idea of playing with circles and squares. Tus, the drinking trinket was born.

One more important property I forgot: I wanted to be able to have a lanyard on the drinking trinket, so I could easily cary it with me and hold on to it.

Since this was precision work (!), the Makation started with some CAD design.
