Adam Honse@rpilocator @[email protected] I preordered from Sparkfun when they first announced the Pi 5 and have yet to receive one, order still shows as backordered. I can't say I agree with this. Post-COVID maybe but pre-COVID Pi launches went better, and pretty much all of Pi's products launched pre-COVID. I was able to pick up a Pi 4 in store at Micro Center soon after launch and they had a full shelf of them.

Sorry about the Sparkfun pre-order. Not sure what happened there...

@CalcProgrammer1 @[email protected] I hate knocking on sellers because, overall, they do a pretty good job. But I have to say, Sparkfun is not great dealing with high volume items. Not the first time time have messed up/fallen behind on high volume items. They definitely need better communication with customers.
Again, they make great stuff, but they are not perfect

Not what I see. Availability at Microcenter has been spotty at best. Right now neither of my local stores has any. Or power supplies. Or coolers. In the mean time Digikey has a couple thousand 4GB models and zero 8GB Pi 5s. Pishop finally shipped the one I backordered on 29 Sept. They're still working off their backlog.of 8GB models but have 4GB in stock.
Stacy@CalcProgrammer1 @rpilocator @Raspberry_Pi - Same happened to me. Digi-key kept getting more Pi 5s faster than the pre-orders went out. I ordered one from them and got it instantly. Only difference is I didn’t cancel the pre-order, then it suddenly shipped out a few days later -haha. Now I have two.
