The just-released #Firefox 120 for #Android opens up to add-ons. There are already 50 of them available and the number should grow quickly as more add-ons get verified.
I've installed #Ghostery to get rid of cookie pop-ups. What a relief.
If you are not using Firefox on Android, I highly recommend giving it a try. It's been my daily driver for years and it's gotten really good and no other relevant mobile #browser has such a wide variety of add-ons available AFAIK.
I actually mixed it up a bit: Firefox 120 was not just released, but a few weeks ago. A wide variety of add-ons will be available to everyone in 121 which will be released in several days. But you can already enable it in 120. Just go to About Firefox, tap the logo 5 times, go to Nimbus Experiments and enable Android Add-ons - Extension Process.
@sesivany Nice! Couldn't get it from f-droid though, only the "ugly" store. I wonder if there is any good replacement, I used to use IceCat which also doesn't seem to be available anymore..

There is Fennec an unofficial Firefox fork in which some of the proprietary blobs got removed(I think and maybe some tracking): https://f-droid.org/packages/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid/

There is Mull, a privacy oriented browser, based on Firefox.

@sesivany from what I remember, Ghostery just keeps being sold and rebought by different ad companies. I'm a big fan of Consent-O-Matic, which doesn't just hide the cookie banners, it also clicks through them to deny as many permissions as possible.

@sesivany
It's really good! Also, if you're feeling adventurous, you can enable desktop-mode and install regular Firefox extensions, though it's obviously unsupported.

I'm using Proton Pass that way and it works flawlessly.

@sesivany There's the "I still don't care about cookies" extension as an alternative to ghostery, for folks that are interested.
@kta I used to use I don't care about cookies, but then switched to Consent-O-Matic because I actually care about cookies, I just want to set the preferences once and apply them to all websites and that's exactly what C-O-M is doing. It's just not available for Firefox on Android yet, though.

@sesivany I moved on from opera after some ads started bypassing the adblocking measures.

I know previous older versions of Firefox supported all add-ons until mozilla made changes. Hopefully they all get ported over so I can get the proper adblock ultimate installed.

@sesivany Note that this isn't new, Ghostery has been available for years on Firefox for Android, the only difference is that before, there were only a few (good) add-ons that Mozilla hand picked that were available.

@sesivany
Ghostery sells your information behind your back through the ghostrank feature and probably some other things.

I'd recommend using Ublock which is open source and has more features.

@sesivany The hell? This has been a feature of Firefox on Android for years. That's the main reason I switched to it before I did on desktop.

For the record, you should be using uBlock Origin, which is already the top extension. Not Ghostery.

@sesivany I left so many add-ons in the disabled state since they took it away a few years ago and it was nice seeing them re-activate and function again recently with the correction of their huge mistake.
@sesivany Is this a new thing? I kept seeing people saying that mobile Firefox has addons (compared to mobile Chrome that does not) for years. Am I making this up or what's actually changed?
@liskin Until now they had a short list of approved add-ons, now they're opening it, so that basically all add-ons made for the desktop Firefox will work as well.
@sesivany Tohle mě minulo (a asi by nemělo, když FF pro Android používám snad, co byl na androidu dostupný), jdu na to 😉
@sesivany the fact that I apparently can't import bookmarks into mobile firefox is kinda mind-boggling. Apart from that it's great.

@sesivany

Can’t wait for sideloading on iOS and real browser like Firefox + uBlock Origin instead of Safari. Should be matter of time thanks to EU.

@sesivany
Yeah, I tried installing Firefox and it got rid of all my previous profiles, all my stored passwords that I usually use on the go.
I'm not going to be fooled this time. Before I install, I will use APK extractor to store the APK file, and if the new version is even premier than the previous one, I will use App Manager to reinstall the old version.

Also, when are they going to re-enable the about:config settings so I can actually properly configure #Firefox?

#UpgradeToAWorseVersion

@sesivany I hope that the #Floccus addon is supported on android soon. In the meantime I have been using the app version, but the addon would be a lot smoother to use.
@Bright5park @sesivany Currently waiting for Mozilla to add support for bookmarks API to fennec. Then it's a go :)
