Parking Squid

Wow apparently there are nearly as many squid/bicycle fans on the mastos as there are cat people. 😏
Squid Masto: It's so pretty! 😍
Art Masto: It's so pretty! 😍
Urbanist Masto: It's so pretty! 😍
Bike Masto: That is a completely inadequate bike rack. 😠
@lemay Somehow this is more functional than some bike racks I see installed in places 🦑
@lemay I hope it's silver-coloured, not actually silver... Though I don't know, I assume silver would be too valuable and too soft to use for bike parking sculptures, but I'm not certain.
@kibrika lol yes, silver-colored. I started out writing "aluminum" and then my accuracy brain kicked in and I thought “maybe it's galvanized steel. Maybe it's paint" and my actual intent got lost in editing. 🙄

@lemay

There are many ways to park a bike on a bike rack, in NYC things get a little... extreme. Have you ever heard of the "Hunter College Method" of bike parking for S racks?

Normally on an S rack each bike gets a loop. In more extreme circumstances you have bikes between each loop too.

But at Hunter it's one bike on each side of the loop, one in the middle ... then from the other side yet another on top of each loop.

You learn the method or you don't get locked up and to class on time.

@lemay

Maaaan I miss teaching college sometimes. Too bad they don't pay anything at all.

Like ... I could have done better bike messaging than teaching. IDK how they staff the classes. Although, if they let me teach mathematical stats again I'd prolly do it.

@futurebird @lemay i interviewed at Columbia for a programming job years ago (like mid 2000's). Like a "I'd be in charge of architecting a new system" kind of job. but then the salary they offered was....well more than I made as an administrative assistant in 1993, but less than what I got paid as a perl scripter in 1996. unfortunately not competitive at all with even a bottom-level tech job at any old back office operation
@lemay I'd trust that squid with my bike. Obviously very professional

Tentacle at the top for parking your hoverbike

@lemay i find most of these clever bike racks rather non-ideal for locking up bikes. give me a street sigh pole or a 2" tree any day. nice and simple!

especially u want to gurantee ur bike and gonna slip down and end up in traffic.

i see so many bikes squashed in traffic!

@lemay I believe #Monterey (home of the Monterey Bay Aquarium) has an #octopus bike rack, but we really need a squid rack, too. Multiple squid racks...

@lemay

Gotta make sure @SarahMackAttack puts this on her Seattle squidule

@lemay Gasp! So amazing! That is the best-looking bike stand I have ever seen, by a very long, long margin.
@lemay cool. Until I scrolled down to be able to see the photo I was thinking there's a squid that is talented enough to operate a bicycle and the best they can think to do with it is park other people's bikes?
@lemay I want to park at the squid!
