86 years ago, sirens sounded in Guernica as the Nazis carpet-bombed civilians. Today, they sound again for the Palestinian people in Gaza being slaughtered by Israel.

Amazing how there’s no media coverage of this to speak of in the West although even Times of Israel covered Guernica’s 80th anniversary.

Thousands in Guernica, Spain draw link between 1937 fascist bombings and Gaza genocide

Several thousand people in Guernica formed an enormous mosaic with their bodies to protest the genocide in Gaza.

@aral

Didn't you know? Israel is the untouchables!

You may not accuse them, or you will be called Antisemitic.

You can't use military force against them for fear of being called a Nazi.

You cannot sanction them as they control many financial institutions.

This is what happens when society crushes freedom of speech and opinions. Allows the rule of labelling-fear to prevail.

I could have created a mirror picture to the one attached of civilians lined up naked but I'll be labeled.

@LALegault

@aral @LALegault Some political leaders in France, that compared what come in Gaza with Guernica few days ago, was accused of antisemitism (as usual), in mainstream medias. Mainstream medias still defend people that sell tons of bombs and various weapons to Israel
@aral there is quite a bit of coverage in main Spanish news. I think a problem here is that the anglosphere always act as if *their* public opinion is the same as the *global* public opinion. https://www.eldiario.es/euskadi/mundo-historia-no-deben-aceptar-nuevo-gernika-mural-humano-apoya-palestina-localidad-vizcaina_1_10752555.html

@aral @LALegault When it happens to brown people...it is acceptable to the west. Remember how the west allowed and sat back while Rwanda went into full on genocide...
@aral @LALegault No media coverage? I seem to live in some parallel universe...
And - BTW - what was it, that happened Oct, 7 ??
Did there happen anything at all ???

@[email protected] @LALegault Yes, a bunch of Islamist barbarians murdered roughly 1,200 Israelis including ~859 civilians and took hostages.

In the time since, Israel has gone on a genocidal rampage in Gaza, murdering more than ten times the number of Palestinians (~17,000 currently), the vast majority of which are women and children.

Happy?

Now fuck off.

@aral

It's so fucking disturbing that people pretend Oct. 7th is the beginning of this conflict...

Are they all that ignorant!?

@godot @LALegault

@axnxcamr @aral @LALegault
It's so fucking [your words] that people here in the thread seemingly aren't even able to think back to Oct. 7.
The current escalation IS the direct result of what happened that day.
That the conflict goes back further is clear - but a little bit too complex for a Mastodon thread, (Go ahead if you feel able to squeeze it in)
@godot @axnxcamr @aral @LALegault so tell me, what will balance the scale for you?
How many innocents for each one of yours?
Regardless of how they die or who kills them they are no less dead.

@CatDragon

They want to exterminate Hamas, and if I'm correct, Hamas is 30k members. Given that they killed 17k people and 3k Hamas members, I believe they will need to kill 170k people in Gaza to reach their goal.

That anyone could claim this is "self defense" is astounding...

@godot @aral @LALegault

@axnxcamr @godot @aral @LALegault I’m certain it has nothing to do with the marine gas fields off southern Gaza, Bibi being such an honest man.
@godot @aral @LALegault We now know among other things that Israeli helicopters killed some number of Israeli civilians that day. And every day afterwards, in a myopia of bloodlust and with the ever-thinner rationalization of responding to that initial attack, Israeli forces have caused what any sane person must at least admit has been unnecessary death and human suffering. And that stands *even if* you're a monster yourself and don't consider any Palestinians to be human.

@aral You might have seen some coverage about a gang of killer chimpanzees.

It was presented without irony.

@aral @LALegault Remembering... and acting?
@aral @LALegault On #MSNBC, Ayman Mohyeldin devoted a good 15 minutes to it on Saturday.
@aral @LALegault so wrong. Sooooo wrong.
@aral @LALegault just to clear my point of view: it's you who are so wrong, on so many accounts. First of all: linking the modern state of Israel to the nazis fits the worldwide accepted definition of antisemitism.

@arfues @LALegault If the modern state of Israel doesn’t want to be compared to the Nazis, it should stop acting like the Nazis.

Now go away.
