one thing seems clear: trying to uniformize feet color across pendats and dumbladors doesn't do anything good, especially given the brown background of #BilouSchoolZone ...
on the other hand (sic), there's only 7 unique foot sprites in the current spritesheet. If I had to double that number to "hard-code" the shading into the pixels, that wouldn't be that bad. That's what ... 1/64th of the VRAM ?
The fact that there's only 64K of #genesisdev VRAM for the whole project should be the really concerning part.
