I noticed many years ago, that certain fabrics, materials, clothing types irritate my skin less when it's sufficiently cold enough in winter. I wonder why that is. 🤔

Fascinating! One thing is, that air humidity is low in winter, and the lower the colder the weather is. So maybe your skin likes dry air?🤔

@ReimanSaara @JeremyMallin Lower humidity dries skin, and dry skin is slipperier than more hydrated skin, possibly due to being more rigid, having less contact area due to ridging, and microscopic differences in how the skin interacts with what it contacts. So fabrics may be sliding more freely. Also it’s likely that our perception of texture varies with our skin’s hydration levels since we need to compensate for the slipperiness of dry skin when holding objects.
@maddilynSix @ReimanSaara Thank you to both of you. I hadn't thought of that. It makes a lot of sense.
@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic I don't know. Have two hypotheses:
1) Your skin is colder and thus a bit number?
2) Slightly sweaty skin might feel more irritable?
@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic maybe the cold suppress some of the stimulus that irritates your skin, maybe a proprioception thing?
