I must confess that I don't understand why YouTube creators use the "Premiering in 30 minutes" notification. Does anyone really watch recorded content "live" anymore? I gave that up decades ago when I got a DVR.

Even for live sports I start recording, wait at least an hour, then start watching and skip over the ads, inane commentary, and slow spots. By the time I catch up to live action, the game is over.

@TWSheppard I still watch some live events on YouTube. NASA/SpaceX launches are probably the best example I can think of.

@richardgunther It's been ages since I've watched a live space launch, but I know some who do.

The video I was referring to was recorded and edited months ago and was simply being made available in 30 minutes. But I can watch it anytime. It's not so compelling that I need to watch it the second it's released. I watch when it's convenient. I've been spoiled ever since the invention of the VCR.

@TWSheppard iirc YT seemingly changed things so that promotion on the wider algorithm was directly proportional to the first hour of viewing. There were many complaints among the smaller channels that it also affected promotion on personal feeds as well but it's mainly based on anecdotes.
