So, Trans Lifeline has been having trouble making ends meet of late. So much so that they’ve started having to cut management and hours.

This is sub-fucking-optimal.

If you’ve got a few bucks to spare, these folks are doing insanely good work and need to keep the lights on.

Also, if you like this without boosting, it’s basically a hate-crime. Just so we’re clear. 😉

@Caution it’s so easy to donate, even a cis dude like me can do it! Let’s go!

@Caution thank you for sharing this. I didn't realize they were struggling and it would be a terrible resource to lose at any time, but especially now. 😢
@Caution If your employer matches donations, TransLifeline probably qualifies. Donate and match today!
@Caution What the what‽ I wasn’t already supporting them?

@Caution
Boosted
Not for nothing, many companies won't match unless you are listed here

Update Your Nonprofit's Profile

Our platform helps nonprofits be discovered and connect to donors aligned with their values and missions, raise awareness and funds, build trust, and increase efficiency and impact. Your organization is encouraged to submit all available data in order to receive a published score on individual beacons, which are then summed and weighted to calculate the nonprofit's overall Charity Navigator rating.

@odin @Caution awesome will forward to corp.

Also donated

@tricethetraveller @Caution No problem!

My recommendation is to just look for the charity’s tax number on their site (usually at the bottom of the home page or somewhere on “About”) and then search Charity Navigator using that, it tends to be more reliable for me

@Caution

Donated with a company match.

@Caution very easy to donate to this cause. Takes Apple Pay too!
@Caution

I was going to boost but the guilttripping at the end made me not to. that's not a good tactic and can be triggering to some neurodivergent people like myself, if you want people to boost, please don't make it be out of fear but genuine interest.

I know this is indirectly boosting but I wanted to let you know.

@bytemaulSoftpaw I appreciate hearing that.

First off, if you want to avoid boosting indirectly but still comment, you can change the visibility of your response to “mentioned people only” and it won’t add to the reach at all. My DMs are open.

That said, do you mind if I reply via said DMs? I wanted to ask you for more detail, but I’m not sure if that’s best done in private or if you prefer everything public. Let me know, and either way, thanks for saying that.

@Caution

I think it would be useful for other people if we keep it public.
@Caution

oh! that yeah, you can ask me about it, I forgot to add that.
@bytemaulSoftpaw So the bit at the end is intended to be silly hyperbole, as denoted by the winking smiley face. Did that not come across, or did it not matter/change the reading of that text?
@Caution

saying that not interacting with a post in any way is morally wrong is generally inadvisable. and no, the winky face read as more passive aggressive or as a "if you do it you are safe" or at least that's how it reads to me.
@bytemaulSoftpaw Ahh, ok. I’m ND as well (different flavour, more than likely). I’m very used to using hyperbole with a wink & a nod to make it clear that what’s said is not actually serious, but at the same time convey/emphasize the message. I can see what you’re getting at, and I appreciate you letting me know. I’m not certain I’ll change it, as it gets very good traction as it is, & my aim is to get it in front of as many peoples’ eyes as possible so as to maximize odds of extending the reach & upping donations, and it usually gets good traction. Don’t get me wrong, if it were offensive & someone called me out on it I’d make changes. If a few people look at it & say “wow, this guy’s a jerk”, but another 600 boost or donate? That’s a trade-off I’m ok with. That said, I’ll think about changing it for the next time and see what happens. If you’d like, I’ll even run options by you if you’d like. I’d appreciate another pair of eyes/perspective.
@Caution LMAO i liked & boosted this post so fast, & then i read the last part & was like "wow who would do such a horrible thing" 🤣💀
@itsmeholland Given some of the replies I can’t tell whether you mean what I was referring to or the hyperbolic phrasing I used. 😄👍🤷🏽
@Caution lol just your hyperbole i think 😆 like "who wouldn't boost this post?! That IS a hate crime" lmao & just the fact that i boosted before i read the whole thing, it was extra funny to see that last piece haha
@itsmeholland Apparently it was considered off-putting by some folks. Which, fine, hyperbole doesn’t work for everyone. It’s a reasonable gripe. It’s still probably the single most effective post I’ve ever made (in terms of reach), so overall I’m reasonably ok with it. If it got even a single donation that wouldn’t have been made otherwise, I’m good with that.
@Caution queer people get to make jokes at our own expense sometimes lol jeez. People can be so serious all the damn time. I thought it was funny anyway 🤣😅

@itsmeholland We’re all sensitive about certain things, and I respect that. I also know that it’s impossible to please everybody*, and that’s fine too.

* so we’re clear I’m not trying to suggest that this means any sort of rude behaviour or hatefulness is acceptable because everything is valid and some folks are “snowflakes” or somesuch bs.

@itsmeholland Yah. The number of “My bus being late is homophobic” and “selling blueberry bagels is anti-semitic” (and so forth- I’m using examples that relate to my own marginalizations) cracks that come from within the respective communities is pretty common fare.
