Amazon Fire TVs have found a new and annoying way to slap you in the face with ads

A new Amazon Fire TV update forces users to view an ad upon TV start-up instead of displaying the home screen.

@verge workaround: buy a dumb tv and plug a small 100$ pc, preferably running Linux. 100% no #enshitification

@verge
Steps to solve this:
1. Install Kodi
2. Install app to automatically start Kodi (Automate, Llama, Tasker, etc.)
3. Install Kodi Addons for the streaming services you use.
4. Enjoy an ad-free Smart TV experience.

Alternatively: Get a stock android TV stick or Raspberry Pi.

@verge That’s why i threw away my Fire Stick and got an Apple Tv. Its start screen is just a grid of apps.
