Greta Thunberg (@gretathunberg) on the urgent need for system change...
___________________________

Until recently, you could argue that it was possible to save the climate without having to change our behavior. But that is no longer possible. The scientific evidence is crystal clear: our leaders have left it too late for us to avoid major lifestyle and systemic changes. There simply are not enough resources left.

If we are to have a chance of minimizing further irreparable damage, we now have to choose: either we safeguard living conditions for all future generations, or we let a few very fortunate people maintain their constant, destructive search to maximize immediate profits.

It is quite simple really, we can march, cajole, campaign, plead, adduce evidence, but people holding all the wealth, resources and power have a choice, they can either explicitly say F**k you ,Musk-like, or silently and destructively carry on doing their own thing.
"Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely" (various attributions).

She's not the only advocate for systemic change regarding the climate, and it's not hard to find an eloquent, intelligent advocate who is not also an apologist for terrorism.

Sorry, but Greta lost me when she parroted Hamas propaganda.

@CaseyL @breadandcircuses @gretathunberg Being against genocide and parroting Hamas is not the same thing. Thunberg herself also issued an updated statement. "We are of course against any type of discrimination, and condemn antisemitism in all forms and shapes. This is non-negotiable," she said. Give her a break, I wish I had her level of political awareness when I was 20 years old.

Mother Nature: If you all can not get your shit together, I'm gonna take you all down!

"Our times are indeed dire, and foretold, and unfortunately there is little we can do to forestall the immediate crisis that confronts us.

However, we find ourselves at this moment in history for very simple reasons.

As I have said before, I am not religious. And yet I have found justice, compassion, and wisdom in the thoughts and writings of many historical religious, philosophical, and political figures.

And one of the saddest realities we face today is that so many of these wise men and women have already delivered most all the answers we seek.

Peace. Justice. Humility. Compassion. The willingness to stand for good when all others stand against it.

These are not new answers my friends, but among the oldest recorded. And when we abandon our most precious treasures of wisdom, we will suffer their warning."

I have donated numerous copies of this book to different school libraries my kids attend. It's a critical book.

@breadandcircuses @gretathunberg And what do we think it’s gonna be?? Yes, the very few. Because people don’t change their habits no matter how many books you write. Just look at the a the latest Thanksgiving traveling or the upcoming Christmas travel.
@breadandcircuses @gretathunberg And 'we' keep electing the same yesterday's people as our 'leaders'. Our new government in New Zealand looks to the past for the answers and hopes the future will be the same. It won't be, and by the time enough of the rest of us realise that it will be too late. Just like all the other poor fools around the world. So depressing, yet not a reason to give up.
