Why We're Dropping Basecamp - Duke University Libraries Blogs

We at Duke University Libraries have decided to stop using the project management platform, Basecamp, to which we have subscribed for almost a decade. We came to this decision after weighing the level of its use in our organization, which is considerable, against the harms that we see perpetuated by the leadership of Basecamp’s parent … Continue reading Why We’re Dropping Basecamp →

I am not a librarian, so I can just say, hey fuck you, David Heinemeier Hansson! You're a piece of shit!
JUST ONCE I'd like one of the old internet companies to turn out to be run by a decent human being. JUST FUCKING ONCE.
I think Craig turned out okay mostly? If not, don't tell me, I don't wanna know.
@fraying Couple others, too, I believe. Heiferman, perhaps?
@whitneymcn This is me noticing that Meetup still exists.
@fraying @whitneymcn OK that should be turned into a Fediverse web app stat.
@fraying Just confirming that everything I've read about Craig indicates he is indeed OK. The latest: https://observer.com/2023/10/craig-newmark-interview-craigslist-democracy/

@fraying @jeridansky oh no I've always been a fan and now I will never forgive him either! (RIP Olive Martini.)
@fraying and “absolute power corrupts absolutely” doesn’t even seem to cover it
@fraying I *think* Matt Mullenweg is still a nice guy. (WordPress)
@fraying i dont really know anything about this guy except that he is prolly living his best life instead of trying to mess up other people's right now
@fraying Sudden wealth can arrest emotional development.
@jvagle especially for those who never had any to begin with.

@fraying Part of the problem is that massive success tends to corrupt over time.

Even the really awful ones seem like maybe they were better for awhile. Forget who I'm quoting with "rich people are like regular people but with less filters." But less filters, over time, tends to turn you into a sort of self-caricature. People aren't really built to be able to ignore their social filters, long-term.
