Its time for a #tweeds update! I guess it was actually time like a week ago but whatever. Shush.

Grow tent starting population was two Duct Tape plants (heavy indica) and a Cheetah Piss (sativa). I intentionally over-grew the Duct Tape ladies to get a deeeeep couch lock effect. We middle aged folk need winter weed to address pain more than we need to make game night more fun. (The Cheetah Piss is just aging slower.)

Last week we harvested the larger Duct Tape, and she went into jars yesterday. (I took full branches through a peroxide dip and drip, then a basic wet hand trim and into the tent. This is only my second run, and I got basically nothing the first time except experience.)

The brand new dry tent is nice, but just as I got set up winter flipped my humidity problem around. Nothing I did got the humidity above 50%, much less the desired 65. I'll be building a wick humidifier with a clean (peroxide-rinsed) towel before tonight's harvest to see if that helps. Worst case, I guess I can plumb the grow tent exhaust into the drying tent. Both tents have humidity-driven exhaust fans, and the grow tent and lung room both have dehumidifiers. The grow tent is nicely managed even on watering days but I just don't have a good way to bring clean wet air into the dry tent.

Tonight the remaining Duct Tape (top-right of the picture) comes down, and the Cheetah Piss (foreground and left) gets all the light and love for a few more days before her turn. More in alt.

Even though I gave away sooo many seeds, I've still got a bunch to choose from for the next run. I'll post a poll soon - I need to sprout 2 for the tent (plus a spare in case of males) and 1 to go be a friend's houseplant. The theme of the next run is going to be Pruning Hell. I need to get more experience, and the houseplant needs to be super bushy so that she doesn't need tons of maintenance. (There are autos in my pile, but I'm sticking with photos.)

We were exhausted yesterday, so instead we took down Duct Tape 2 this morning pre-sunrise. There wasn't as much as I had thought, and she was in rough shape. (The main cola came down in the first run, so it is already on to curing.) She got a less detailed wet trim than her sister, and is now hanging in the dry tent. We spotted a mature seed but I'm hoping it'll be OK. There was no sign of male flowers on either plant during harvest, and the Cheetah Piss still looks clean 🀞
The dishtowel humidity wick is working great. The exhaust fan "dehumidifier" is running every 30 minutes or so, and the tent is staying nicely between 57% and 67%.

Dashboard pic is the traffic light monitors and the drying tent environmental graph. No camera in the drying tent, let the girl have her privacy.

@dis wait… is that #HomeAssistant ?!
@lil5
First a quick rant: DO NOT BUY SWITCHBOT. They are unsafe and have no warranty and they can suck whatever piece of my anatomy they find most distasteful. We couldn't afford to replace them, but we had to anyway because Fire is Bad.

Ahem. Anyway. Yes! The grow is driven by
#HomeAssistant (along with the rest of the #snarkhouse.) I can post the grow hardware BoM (my lights, plugs, etc) if you're interested, but the basic stack is #HomeAssistant as a #Truenas VM with everything else on ARM64 under #k3s. The control plane is CM4 on #TuringPi2, and Zigbee/Zwave pods talk to ser2sock + node-feature-detector to find their USB radios. (They are plugged into the client port of the Turing, so I can move them programmatically.)

On the far side of the radios, a cheap
#esp32 Rover handles #bigear listening as well as the MiFloras and #BLE hygrometers. Inside the grow tent, an #esp32cam on a 3d printed mount watches over the grow. Power relays are a mix of old #Securifi peanuts and new #ThirdReality switches. (DO NOT BUY SWITCHBOT.)

Edit to add: I use power use to confirm that the lights and such are working, and templated 'traffic light' sensors (ok/error) confirm that the schedule, the switch and the power drain all align. If it goes red, the house starts shouting at us about it.

@dis @lil5 I immediately reflashed mine with Tasmota, which Does Not Suck. But I was unaware that there might be a fire risk. Under what conditions did you notice that kind of problem?
@targetdrone @lil5
I had a bunch of
#switchbot switches on everything from the coffee maker to the kegerator. After less than a year in service, I had two fail in a month. (One was never even toggled, just used for power monitoring.)
The issue is that they failed by toggling power off and on a couple of times a second, over and over until unplugged. TapTapTapTapTapTapTapTap....
That is BAD for downstream equipment.
@dis I've been considering growing.. Is it rewarding?
@Sinia We started by growing "the girls" (wizard punch bag seeds) completely haphazardly and without training. They didn't grow or cure right but they are a great smoke for talking and hanging out.
The second run is more intentional but no more right

I am enjoying it so far, but I'm still burned out and growing things in general is being helpful.

Just give it a try. Especially if you have bag seeds, you don't necessarily NEED a bunch of stuff. Ultra-reliable lighting is the big hard part. Tents and nutes and fans and all that crap are fine but its just a plant. It doesn't require all that..
@dis I'll probably give it a shot some time.. though I'll need to wait till they let non-medical users grow..

Do you use special soil for yours?
@Sinia The tweeds are on Happy Frog (amzn.to/3sZaIOO). I had some fancy super organic blah blah that I used for the first grow that came with bonus fungus gnats. Otherwise it was fine, but after I stripped and sterilized it for the tweeds it got unexpectedly used on houseplants.
The tweedlings had to go basically NOW, so I picked up a couple bags of Happy Frog on Amazon and it was fine. Next round will reuse that soil assuming I can sterilize it. (It has been windy, wet or both. Today is so foggy I can't see across the street.)
