B.C. First Nation votes to take over child and family services for its members - Canada News

British Columbia's largest First Nation has voted to take over authority of child and family services for its members.

@Catawu This is good. We've done a terrible job of raising their children.
@Oldfartrant Removing their children was part of the genocide plan. We owe them more support in all directions. This went on for over 200 yrs. That’s a lot of generational destruction.
@Catawu
Absolutely, but today's child services hasn't changed from the 60s scoops. It probably isn't much better for non native children either.
@Oldfartrant Frankly, kids are being trafficked via the system, one way or another. Very few escape the dark side of Child Services.
@Catawu
The government promises to fix the problems but they never go away. The system must be the problem. Scrap the system. Create a new system based on a family structure instead of a bureaucracy. That might work.
@Oldfartrant You’re boring me. You fix the system and whatever system you have in place becomes the beuracracy. We need to change the incentives in the system that only benefit the wealthy & the destructive. Scrapping the system, as you suggest, would put us back to caves, chaos, & defenseless against invaders. Burning this house down does not give us a better house, it abandons those who need it most while the elite quibble over tiles.
