Catching up late on the Devternity debacle, and it's leaving me with a genuine question:

What is it about tech conferences* in particular that seem to attract so much ridiculous drama?

* I don't mean any that I am or have been involved in; this is very much not a passive-aggressive dig, but a true query!

@aphoenix Everyone who attends / interested in tech conferences is Extremely Online. We just see more of it.

@kneath Ahh, so is your theory that drama is present in every community if you look closely enough and we are just seeing more of it because we’re all looking all the time?

Or that Extremely Online people foment more dramz?

@aphoenix Mostly A, but definitely a bit of B. I know quite a few fields with way more drama (ex: Construction) but it doesn't surface on social media the same.
