Won't happen again as most books these days are set in smaller font type I have difficulty reading. So it's eBooks from now on. It's also saving on my bookshelf space.

this isn't entirely unfounded I think doing the pinching method could get more light into your eye meaning that you could maybe see it more clearly
but the theoretical benefits of this would not be enough to identify the bird
