Israeli hostages returning home and Palestinian prisoners returning home look the same because they are the same.

They are just people returning to their families after being caught up in a horror not of their own making.

There is hope for peace here, if we can recognize it.

While most of the world is rejoicing to see the return home of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners alike, not everybody is.

Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is not happy that Palestinians are celebrating the return of their loved ones from detention without charge. He says the police can shut down Palestinian celebrations in East Jerusalem, where the police have a substantial presence.

“My instructions are clear: there are to be no expressions of joy,” Ben Gvir says.

The released Palestinian prisoners returning to East Jerusalem have already been banned from any public reunions as they may be a cause for celebrations or demonstrations.

Now there are reports of Israeli police entering the homes of prisoner's families homes and confiscating the sweets prepared to mark their return.

What is the Israeli government afraid of ? Is it the sweets? Is it the propaganda potential of a party?

Or is it the De-Dehumanisation of Palestinians?

Here's a report of Israeli police raiding the freed Palestinian prisoners families homes and taking the desserts away so they can't celebrate their return. No, really.

The main aim of the raids is to eject journalists from the homes and confiscate mobile phones so no reports or photos of these events can be published. They're taking the desserts just for the sake of petty evil.

'Israeli police' raid homes of released prisoners to prevent celebrations

'Israeli police' raid homes of released prisoners ....

@ProjectFearlessness I just realized we have heard nothing about these released Palestinian women and girls. We need their stories. As you say, stories are what helps to unite our common humanity.

@kimlockhartga
Their stories are out there if you look hard enough, but they are way down the agenda.
It's fair to say that while not all these prisoners are entirely innocent, the huge majority are. Also, as the few that have been tried and sentenced in Israeli military court where the evidence is marked as sensitive and confidential, it's hard to make any judgements.

Who are the Palestinian women and children being freed under hostage deal?

A grandmother and a 14-year-old boy are among those eligible for release as part of Israel-Hamas agreement

@ProjectFearlessness Again, we must pay attention who we call "prisoners" and who we call "hostages." Given what you have posted about totalitarian tendencies when it comes to one type of people, it is hard to see any difference. So why are we perpetuating this difference?
@Brad_Rosenheim
While I completely agree with your point, I decided that calling Palestinian prisoners hostages would cause such a mix of confusion and offence that I would never hear the end of it. You've got to pick your battles in the language war.
@ProjectFearlessness “my instructions are clear; there must be no expressions of joy.” Ben Gvir must be great fun at a party
@ProjectFearlessness
He sounds like a Nazi.
Give them no joy, keep your foot on their neck, they are sub-human.
The leadership in Israel is evil.

@ProjectFearlessness

Joy banned.

Fascism looks a lot like this. Can we think of other examples? Places where music is forbidden? Where summary arrests and detention are commonplace? Where ethnic community is imprisoned behind wire when its cheap labour is not being exploited? Where homes and bsinesses are deliberately destroyed as punishment for existing? Where relentless violation and religious persecution never leads to peace? Where strongmen rule like absolute beasts?
