Animal of the day (108)

With its mohawk and eyeliner, the Knysna Turaco is the feathered rockstar of the South African forests. Active during the day, it is usually seen flying between forest trees, or hopping along branches, in pairs or small family groups. A fruity fanatic, it feasts on a menu of berries, especially enjoying a gourmet selection of mistletoe and wild fruits. Turacos are the only birds to possess true red and green colour pigments. In fact, if you stirred a glass of water with a red turaco feather, the water would turn pink!
