TODAY: Egg producers LIABLE for price fixing scheme, per new verdict by federal jury.

The 2 top egg producers, Cal Maine and Rose Acre, and 2 top industry groups, were raising and fixing egg prices.

Case now moves to a damages phase.

YES, inflation was partly price gouging.

@tristansnell Lately I’ve been buying local eggs from Jason, who is 7.
@tristansnell Looking forward to my part of the damages, a coupon good for 20 cents off on a half-carton of regular sized factory farm eggs.
@artemesia @tristansnell
Unfortunately, it's all going to the biggest & shittiest 'food-stuff' corporations. We may have to wait another decade to "find out" about the recent eggsorbitant shell game.
"The lawsuit, initiated in 2011 by a Kraft Heinz Co. unit, Kellogg Co., General Mills Inc., & Nestle SA, accused the egg producers and trade groups, United Egg Producers and United States Egg Marketers, of engaging in a conspiracy to manipulate egg prices from the late 1990s through at least 2008."
@tristansnell that’s cool, but will we ever see compensation?
@tristansnell just a note on this; the suit covers price fixing from 1999-2008.
@FortunateFool @tristansnell
And the lawsuit was brought by kraft, kellogg, nestle, etc.
@tristansnell gotcha, assuming "partly" means "mostly"
