@[email protected] @gruber @julipuli Then you’re lucky enough to only have friends using Google-proprietary RCS. Which is not terribly different from only having friends with iPhones.

iMessage *requires* e2ee. RCS maybe sometimes can offer it. Given how important that distinction is, it’s a pretty serious UI problem to solve, and Apple’s blue-v-green coding is a very effective solution. Let’s please not do a homeland-security-advisory system-style color spectrum for different “degrees” of security.

@rvcx @itsshevee @gruber @julipuli everybody currently using RCS uses Google’s proprietary version, as far as I can tell. It is essentially the same as iMessage, centralized. To their credit Google did try to get carriers to use standard RCS but they completely failed to do it, so Google just rolled their own.
@jakobsohn @rvcx @[email protected] @julipuli It’s not the same as iMessage at all. iMessage is a messaging platform like WhatsApp or Signal, completely independent of carriers or phone numbers or SIMs.
