OpenAI replacing the only two women on the board, and the only researchers actually interested in preventing skynet, with the guy who invented the like button and the king of neoliberalism is almost too on the nose.
@jimray TBF I don't want any of the AGI TESCREAL cultists worried about Skynet there either.

@dalias @jimray seriously, the fact that nobody in charge of anything seems to have a clear-eyed grasp on the reality that their product is a massive bullshit machine trained by a massive plagarism machine and moderated by a massive real life human sweatshop is a pretty big liability as far as corporate governance goes.

There's no way that any innovation can turn these components into skynet so it's uncomfortable that they're so fixated on pretending that it can happen.

@smn I’m not actually worried about T-800s roaming the streets but the more boring and likely apocalypse where we cede more and more authority to automation with no oversight and everything just kind of sucks for everyone but the super rich.
@jimray yeah, absolutely. Like, that's already happening. And the management of this company is conspiciously NOT concerned with observable present day harms caused by their products, even though they're likely to be blamed when it inevitably fails in some catastrophic way.
