If you find yourself in a constant state of rage, it is not because of Trump.

It is because of how you are getting your news.

Trump does not have the power to reach into your brain and rile you up.

@Teri_Kanefield sadly too many don't realize the power they've given away.
Selfishly I hope you stay engaged here as I learn a lot and gain worthwhile perspective from reading your posts. Remember there's always the mute and/or block option when necessary.
@Teri_Kanefield I think we’re all scared. I’ve been aware of the right wing crackpots in our midsts for decades thanks to my interest in shortwave radio. It just seems like the stuff that seemed like it was the dominion of wackos 40 years ago has gone mainstream, with a good 30-35 % of the public believing it. You’re fighting the good fight and giving us hope that maybe the fever can break. I hope you stick around.
@Teri_Kanefield I blame the Palmer-esque rage peddlers for the left's frothy anger over, well everything lately. I've been guilty of it too, but leaving twitter and not replacing that rage engine here has been cathartic.

@Teri_Kanefield A few years ago I was on a grand jury, which was an eye opening experience. That, combined with being in Portland during the 100+ days of consecutive nights of protests while feds were shooting unarmed protesters in the head with “less lethal” munitions, and I started wondering how on earth is this legal?

From then, I have been interested in legal processes. I appreciate your content as it gives me the high level overview and to get a far more informed perspective.

@Teri_Kanefield sorry you’re being bombarded with everyone’s hate, frustration and cynicism
@Teri_Kanefield Yeah, rage is ineffectual. I am however in a pretty perpetual state of planning & informing myself and others about what’s actually happening and about the need to vote & get others to as well. #USPol #USPolitics #tRump

@Teri_Kanefield If it helps; reading your legal takes, gives me the tools to calm down my friends and family. You're a qualified expert who doesn't stand to gain from rage bait. You also qualify your opinions and explain your reasoning in a way an untrained but curious individual can understand.

Perhaps you could have someone screen the comments & questions for you?

@Teri_Kanefield I really value your posts on Mastodon.

@Teri_Kanefield

Teri, I discovered you because Heather Cox Richardson often quoted you in her nightly letters. I was never on twitter or other socials. I protect my information, and I suspected I’d spend too much time there!😳 But I did look in on what some trusted voices (yours!) were writing. Never via a “feed”. I found this much more valuable than MSM. When Dave Troy (trusted voice) began toad social, thought I’d try it. Some trolls did strike.😔But the custom here seems to be block, move on!

@Teri_Kanefield I struggle with balance. I don’t want to be consumed by rage (and I don’t think I am). I don’t want to look away either. That's when they win - when good people decide it's too hard and to harmful to focus on the crazy.
@Teri_Kanefield And not just news! I can't control Trump. I can't control the judiciary. Or the right/left/middle. Or video game companies or click-bait websites or boomers or genZ or anyone else. But I can control myself and my reactions to all of it.
@Teri_Kanefield I appreciate all that you do! Every little bit of sanity helps!
@Teri_Kanefield Thanks for your efforts. I suspect some of those who are outraged are overly frustrated with the pace of legal proceedings. It is difficult watching tRump & others game the system with frivolous motions trying for more delays. I truly wish for tRump's departure from the scene & my patience is slowly leaving but we must let the system work. I wish one of the judges would give him 24 hours in lock-up, which might settle him down (or not) but at least expose him to the realities.

@Teri_Kanefield This was so true for me. After I started ignoring "news" on social media and started making sure that the times that I get the news are controlled by me, I stopped getting angry at the news. I'm still getting the news, but because it's rationed it feels less like a anger-causing firehose. It just feels like the news felt 20 years ago.

The other thing this did is made the rage influencers less influence-y for me. I read their trending posts and think, "Give it a break."

@Teri_Kanefield Part of being off Twitter is that I don’t approach the world with both fists up, ready to fight the next piece of bad news items. It helps my brain a lot.
