Think I'll be making more of an effort to de-Googlify over the next few months/year... No company should have this much control.
@BlurTheFur
Switching to Firefox then?
@Nuki
I mean, I already swap between Firefox and Chrome regularly. The bigger challenge will be moving everything associated with my Google account like email/calendar/maps/forms/etc.
Fortunately already aware of many alternatives at least.

@BlurTheFur
Part of the problem with that is that there are parts of the Google stack that just aren't well replicated elsewhere: the reason I got so into it in the first place was the WebApps/Cloud offerings of Google Drive / Docs. I'm not sure where else to get that, and using it opts me in to a few other things.

I will say, having Mastodon take off instead of Google+ is a step in the good direction here.

@BlurTheFur @Nuki
I've been using Proton and NextCloud. The only Google service I still use is Maps because of its public transit integration.
@BlurTheFur I think I should do the same. It's gonna be a long, arduous road, but I dun like how they permeated into every single aspect of our lives...
@raccattack
Yuuup. Which is why I said months/year. Heck, I'm using a Pixel phone right now, so it won't be easy... Don't think I'll completely be able to get rid of them, but I'd like the majority of my apps and day to day use to not depend on them.
@BlurTheFur started doing that with my email this year. still need to buy a domain name for my professional irl account.
besides maps and youtube. i don’t think i use any of their other services regularly.
@BlurTheFur yeah I’ve been slowly transitioning my accounts over to a paid email provider but it is very tedious
@BlurTheFur it's pretty empowering to have an email ending in your own domain
