@arstechnica i own a ebike. they are pretty cool but where i live there is no point in having one because everything is to far away and the only way to get to stuff is by car
@boringaccount @arstechnica Does that mean that if you would not have been able to get a car (or not been able to drive one), you would have lived closer to where you would need to be?
@pbb @arstechnica where i live is a small town where everything is far apart and it's not practical to have an ebike as transportation because everything is far away. if i lived in a city where everything was closer together then i could use my ebike as transportation.
@boringaccount @arstechnica , how far is too far?
I'm entertaining the idea atm of visiting my daughter and grandchildren this summer on my ebike (800+km).
Anything you manage to replace that is usually done by car is of benefit.
@arstechnica meanwhile in Barcelona, Catalonia, electric micromobility is permanently banned from public transportation. 🙄

@arstechnica

C'mon, journalists; bikes ARE vehicles!

@arstechnica Hence the panicked reports on the news about eBike batteries exploding and burning down homes. See also: panicked reports on the news about any and all violence anywhere near a public transit stop, bus, train....
@arstechnica Love my e-bike! Use it year-round and daily in Chicago. And I charge it with renewable energy. 💯
@arstechnica
Now i’m confuse. How is an e-bike not a vehicle?
@arstechnica And yet the US government gives tax credits for purchasing electric SUVs but not for e-bikes. ARGH.
Legislation has been proposed for e-bike tax credits but not passed. https://www.kiplinger.com/taxes/federal-electric-bike-tax-credit
Some states do have e-bike tax incentives, though. https://www.juicedbikes.com/blogs/news/2023-guide-us-ebike-rebates-and-tax-credits
Mass. may next year.
Federal Electric Bike Tax Credit Would Offer up to $1,500

Lawmakers have proposed a bigger version of an electric bike bill that would provide a tax credit of up to $1,500 on some new e-bikes.

@smach @arstechnica Oh interesting. I need to see if WA supports them.
@arstechnica
How about, just regular bikes?
@zenben @arstechnica I have no plans for buying an ebike any time soon, but I can see the use for them - for example, if you live in a very hilly area, and using a regular bike for your commute would be too exhausting.
@arstechnica isn’t an e-bike an Electric Vehicle?
@arstechnica I just ride a foot-powered bike.
