@Jeremyinthebluehouse @Popehat I agree, he's one of two (2) Twitter Clout Accounts that I regret are leaving here.

The last couple posts are interesting though: regarding people bitching about CWs and people being strident about who you're supporting by posting on their platform.

I have a theory that some people flee #Mastodon because the criticism here actually gets to them. Like, it's easy enough to ignore trolls, but someone saying "you're a jerk for not using alt text", they feel that.

@Jeremyinthebluehouse @Popehat It's something I struggled with at first here, and I came way before the Great Bird Migration. There's a very specific etiquette here and because it's small and people actually know each other, there's a high social penalty for not following it.

I think a lot of people who had big accounts on Twitter found it really jarring that the criticism they got on here wasn't just conspiracy trolls but genuine people with real arguments.

@andthisismrspeacock @Popehat yeah, I see that, for sure. Twitter was awash in disingenuous engagement. Nothing seemed very real there. This is a very different place.
I do wish people were less tone-policey.
Written text is easily imbued with a tone that was never intended. On occasion, I will see interactions in which one party has found a great deal of offense in what could very well be a simple misreading or misphrasing.
That's exhausting for everyone, and can suppress communications.

@Jeremyinthebluehouse @Popehat Oh yes, absolutely, the Professional Outrage Brigade is very active here... but like any trolls, you have to be able to detect the border between "valid, if obscure, criticism" and "you are just looking for something to be mad about."
