Irina@Mastopoet I'm in a local ecumenical workgroup that the Salvation Army is also in. The SA guy is actually a nice guy, and whereas I hope I'll someday get up the courage to confront him about this I wish I didn't have to.
Helen Graham@irina @Mastopoet I suspect as in all kinds of other things what the leadership and head offices say and what the majority of the organisation do and believe is frequently very different.We did work with the homeless and the Sally army is a life saver especially for newly homeless who otherwise can end in in very dark places .We used to collect and deliver their Christmas boxes and friends worked cooking meals in the open kitchen ,they made a real difference to the poor of all or no faiths
@Helengraham @Mastopoet This person does seem to think that prostitution = human trafficking, always. As if sex workers who do it as actual work don't exist.
@irina @Mastopoet I think it depends on which country your in ,I think in places where prostition is illegal its often women(and to a lesser degree men) who have been trafficked or more likely are bonded labour in some form .In the past it wasnt the case but increasingly in the UK its an issue ,we have one of the highest human slavery /bonded labour rates in the developed world and most as in the sex trade

Not in the same league as the Westboro Baptist Church.
Here in Aotearoa New Zealand, the Sallies made a big mistake in 1985 by throwing their weight in behind a petition against the Homosexual Law Reform Bill, which passed in 1986. They lost a lot of support and learnt from it to become a lot more moderate - eg against conversion "therapy". I tell collectors I'll donate when they celebrate same-sex marriages.
