Apple to Adopt RCS Messaging Standard for Better Interoperability With Android Devices

After years of persuading from Google, Apple plans to adopt the Rich Communication Services standard as of next year. An Apple spokesperson told...

MacRumors
@macrumors How does this fit in with Google's additions to RCS, which many carriers are supporting?
@macrumors What color will RCS replies be?
@bouncing @macrumors Definitely still Green. I doubt apple will differentiate much between SMS and RCS aside from available features, and keep it as “iMessage” and “regular” for the folks that don’t pay close attention (which is most). I’m just happy I’ll be able to leave group chats and higher quality media with my android folks - that said I’ll still be pushing signal as much as possible
@tweece @macrumors Signal is always my preferred way to text even though its electron app makes me irrationally angry.
@bouncing @macrumors It’s not the worst electron app out there, but I’ve got to say I’m really jealous of What’s App’s new native universal swift app. Very shiny, hopefully signal follows suit

@tweece @macrumors Yeah the new WhatsApp app is really nice.

There are just a lot of little quality of life things you get with a native app, like showing up in share sheets.

@macrumors I’m betting that blue and green bubbles remain a thing though 😂
@macrumors @nyquildotorg I wonder if this is a compromise to avoid having to open up iMessage.
@HunterZ @macrumors maybe, but I don't think so. They have a pretty good case for not being an EU gatekeeper for iMessage on account of not many people in the EU using iMessage.

I think they're just trying to take the wind out of the 3rd party bridges people are selling
@macrumors dear lord, is it finally happening?
