Holy shit. Univision, the nation's largest Spanish-language network, has decided to cancel ad-buys by the #Biden campaign in Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, & Florida after #Trump met with their executives last week. Our media continues to fail us. This is how our democracy dies.

Univision, the Spanish-language news giant, shifts its approach to Trump

The presence of corporate executives at Mar a Lago raises alarm among Democrats who are used to Latino media criticism of the former president’s policies.

The Washington Post
@GottaLaff I watched Univision Channel 34 growing up in LA. The noticias were required viewing in my Spanish classes in high school and college. Back then, they were neutral when it came to covering politics.
Now? Their corporate overlords want them to shill for Trump. Ditto Telemundo. They're owned by NBC.

@IveyJanette Yep, I remember those days too.

And yep, to all the rest.

@GottaLaff It's not the same anymore. English or Spanish. All corporate.

@IveyJanette That's the issue, right there.

And of course, when news became commercialized.

@GottaLaff I stopped watching American newscasts because it's all corporate fluff. Plus they ignore communities of color unless it involves murder or crime,or someone holding a ball in their hands or performing. That's why there's bloggers and other "citizen journalists" on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok covering community issues. I'm one of them.

I watch PBS News Hour,CBC The National and BBC. That's it.

@IveyJanette @GottaLaff Hard agree here. I'm not going to find out what's really going on here in #Oakland relying on corporate media.
@IveyJanette @GottaLaff Shots get fired right outside my front door this past weekend and all I hear from corporate media is *crickets* because thank all goddesses nobody got hurt or killed this time. They want my neighbors and me to bleed or die to perpetuate their narrative. Fuck them all.
@cynthia1960 @GottaLaff The only way they'll come into the hood is if and when it erupts in violence and unrest. AKA a riot. And they always interview some self-appointed Black or Latino "spokesman" who doesn't even live in the area. A "safe (N-word)". And they won't allow Black or Latino reporters to cover it,for fear of being "partisan". 1965 all over again. When networks had to bring in Black reporters from NYC to Watts to cover the uprising.
@IveyJanette unfortunately I think we have a few folks living here in West #Oakland who could do that work upholding oppression if things get violent in my part of the Town. The hard task is uplifting voices who speak truth to power.
@cynthia1960 I've done over 100 episodes since 2016. About to film another one next week.
@IveyJanette keep on keeping on
@cynthia1960 Unfortunately the city doesn't care enough. Local media does their token episodes weeks or months after I've filmed.
@IveyJanette hopefully folks can use your work to pressure the city from below.
@cynthia1960 And that's what is starting to happen. I'm involved with several community organizations. We're pressuring the city to do more. Or else.
@cynthia1960 @GottaLaff That's one of the reasons I started Albuquerque Behaves Badly in 2016. Originally I covered the usual bad drivers, bar fights and other stupidity. The pandemic caused me to change the show's focus to covering on the International District,Uptown, and city buses. Especially with businesses in the International District closing due to city indifference and rampant shoplifting and drug use. They corporate media sees me and others as a "threat" that needs to be silenced.
