It kills me when people say, "Mastodon is a social network for geeks."
1. Great tech can have a crappy community, and vice versa.
2. I remember when CompuServe was inhabited only by geeks. Regular humans and their mothers came much later.
3. Back when I was a GAFAM pleb, I was in FB groups with astrophysicists. Smart people can use dumb platforms

Sometimes I've caught myself wondering if I really like Mastodon that much because I'm not checking it all the time like I was other social media platforms... but the reality is that the other platforms were trying their hardest to make me into an addicted user, whereas Mastodon is like a friend I can catch up with whenever I want. It's so refreshing!

That's why i'm on Sharkey - it's NOTHING like other platforms, either in appearance or function.
Plays nicely with Mastodon though, better than its parent - Misskey.
Best of all there are simple rules - be nice to peeps; and if you don't you get the boot from the instance - simples.

I agree, but I still wonder why they had to go with Favorites and Boosts, instead of Upvotes and Retoots(?), since they are basically the same thing.
