Sadly, I had to train in yet another home care worker this morning (new agency). She’s very nice, but is nursing home trained, so I’m having to explain all the things I do here to give my profoundly disabled daughter choice, control and dignity.
I demonstrated supported feeding and toileting, and helping her to let go of toys, not taking them from her, chatting to her, explaining to her what will happen next etc etc.
If nursing home staff do not do these things, how can any disabled person thrive in a nursing home?
