Advertisers Don’t Want Sites Like Jezebel to Exist

@taylorlorenz And yet the only ad I've seen on the birdsite for the last month is for "a push-up bra for small boobs".

@taylorlorenz The clear endgame is fill up the internet with uniform machine-generated nonsense text with Google ads that pay off when people are sent there in the impression they'll find something useful. At the same time, Google is trying to replace search itself with its own machine nonsense generator so that it doesn't have to send people away to the sites it scrapes to make nonsense.

Do none of these people realize that they're competing to see who can make the entire web useless first?

@skottk @taylorlorenz they want the entire population of proles to be mindless, helpless consumers constantly disgorging "value" for their machinery to extract by any means available

*anything* useful to human sentience, understanding, knowledge is bad
@skottk @taylorlorenz or perhaps more accurately: the investor class want there to be out there somewhere an entire population of proles, etc.

but are slowed down slightly by the constant need to insulate their own class (and their own children) from the toxic effects of the mindless-consumer-ification infrastructure

one of the big things about Anglo-American "freedom" taking the form of privatization of all things that make our lives not-literal-hell is that this lets the investor class price things out of the proles' reach while keeping it accessible to themselves
@taylorlorenz companies don't want to support telling people about the real world.

@taylorlorenz

Gee, maybe they figured out that people do not read clickbait headlines?

Maybe media should report real news instead?

@taylorlorenz getting rid of Jezebel makes me sad and upset.

@taylorlorenz

or at least sad or upset about the "wrong" things

@taylorlorenz so… Nazis are ok but not our human emotions. I think we need more stories about Big Advertising / Big Attention-Grabbing
