It's taken a while for me to connect with Dessa's "Bury the Lede". Nothing's hit me with the gut-punch of "Good Grief", "551", or "The Seamstress".

I think "Long Wave" is sinking in now. It's got that fading-dusk, long-haul Midwest road trip imagery, and fuck if she can't pull out the stops on that sustained, descending-chord chorus. Not really sure how to read that middle verse though. "Just trying to put new joints in solid bone"...

Dessa
Seeing Loreena McKennitt and Dessa this month and gosh if I'm not living my best Sad Gay Boy Life rn
@aphyr I just saw Loreena and she was AMAZING. I really expected her to be very aloof, but she told some delightful stories and was very warm and easygoing. I’ve loved her music since the 90s, esp Dante’s Prayer and when she played it I burst into tears
@aphyr this is in contrast to Natalie Merchant, who I’ve loved as a solo artist and with 10,000 Maniacs for at least as long as Loreena, but when I saw her for the first time a few months ago she made a big to-do about embarrassing an elderly woman who was recording on her cellphone, and stopped the whole show for at least 5m to force the women to bring her phone up to the stage and leave it there. I left at intermission
