Want to install #PopOS alongside #win11 but I can't find any good guides from the vendor or otherwise. I'd like to get all the nice PopOS features like a restore partition, but it really wants to wipe the whole drive and start from zero.

I am generally in favor of doing this but in this case, I need to retain the exisitng #Windows partition for a few weeks.

Edit: it would probably be easier to install PopOS and then shrink & add a Windows partition, but I want to keep the one I have now (and its corresponding restore partition).

Any leads?

There are some guides on YouTube, not simple; will have to dedicate some quality time to this.

Here's the guide I followed; the systemd-boot configuration was the part I was unfamiliar with.

Doesn't look like it will work for me for now, though; popos loads fine and works great except for the webcam, and I need the webcam to work.

@royal with as cheap as SSDs are right now ... if your computer can accomodate an additional drive, get a cheap drive for $20 to install linux to.
@techaddressed Lack of space isn't the issue.
@royal I didn't suggest it is. But with a 2nd drive, you can temporarily disconnect the other so nobody mucks with each other.

@royal

Can you just schlep windows in a vm?

@rl_dane I might eventually.

@royal You might need to shrink the drive partitions to make room for the additional OS.

Been a while since I had to do this myself, but might be a lead to look into.

@royal do you have spare drives large enough that would let you image your existing partitions to them? Then you could wipe and install, resize and restore the disk images?
@royal Hmm. Are there specific challenges with Pop and Win11 or are you looking for information on installing Linux alongside an existing Windows install in general?
@jforseth210 It's popos specific. I've done this just fine with other linuces in the past; it's trickier with popos.
