Daring Fireball
@daringfireball “Make me sound more excited.”

@daringfireball “I’m going to eat it.”

“Enjoy it.”

@Eggfreckles @daringfireball I need my AI assistant to be more dismissive.

“I’m going to eat it.”

“That’s nice.”

@caramelbeard @daringfireball

"I'm going to eat it."

"You'll regret it."

@Eggfreckles @daringfireball

“I’m going to eat it.”

“What a surprise.”

@daringfireball The unfiltered air conditioner hum in the background really gives strong “FLIM SPRINGFIELD” vibes. “This thing must be hot! They don’t need flashy real-world demo footage, or even proper sound editing!”
@daringfireball While neat, this device loses immediately to any smartwatch that adds camera functionality, whether in the case or a special watch band. Who is this for exactly?
@daringfireball set looks just like an Apple store. drink every time a designer says “colorways”

@daringfireball Is it just me, or is it really off-putting when the video editor relies mostly on the off-angle view where the presenters aren’t looking at the camera? I know that the back-and-forth between angles became a standard for presentations a long time ago, but I've never been comfortable with it, and this is way too much.

And god, a company called “Humane” should try to get presenters who can at least convincingly fake genuine communication with other humans.

@FormerlyStC @daringfireball Not just you, and one of my paying gigs is editing video.

And yes, the audio is terrible in this.

@daringfireball If the sales pitch is for AI to handle everything so I don't have to worry about apps, it is a hard pass from me. And having the AI give an incorrect answer in the intro video doesn't inspire confidence. It was correct about the date of the next solar eclipse, 8 April 2024. But the best viewing locations it gave were for the 20 April 2023 eclipse. http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/Solar_Eclipses.html#TSE_2024

@daringfireball Impossible to describe how much I don’t want this

@daringfireball:

> They really do mean for this to replace, not supplement, your phone.

NYTimes:

> But even after months of wearing their Ai Pins all day, Humane’s founders can’t fully detach from their screens. “Are we using our smartphones less?” Mr. Chaudhri asked. “We’re using them differently.”

Silicon Valley’s Big, Bold Sci-Fi Bet on the Device That Comes After the Smartphone

Humane, a company started by two former Apple employees, says its new artificial intelligence pin can stop all the scrolling. Can it live up to the hype?

The New York Times
@daringfireball the lack of music bed is a choice
@daringfireball the projected display on hand is so so so bad
@daringfireball been dying for a consumer tech product I can tell “I’m gonna eat it”
@daringfireball It's completely normal for him to go to a store, possibly get advice and then buy the product online with his cool AI Pin because it's 2 dollars cheaper there. As an ai company, you are used to using other people's work without compensating them for their efforts.

@daringfireball

The “AI” is downstairs and powered by Mark, Helly, and Zach clicking on random numbers. #severance

@daringfireball Strong hostage video vibes. Could they be any less excited?
@daringfireball I want to know how this product looked before ChatGPT showed up on the scene… I feel like that is the only thing that made shipping this now possible.
