Having a read through some old Amiga mags and came across this ad that still managed to make my pulse quicken a bit. TFX! There was going to be no other sim like it, it was going to be the ultimate combat flight simulator.

I don't think I ever played it in the end and leapt right to EF2000.

@SharkaBytes I've never played that, but I always loved DID's games (and flight sims in general back then) so that probably would've been right up my street.
@ellieraeuk Yeah, DID games had such a swish style about them.
@SharkaBytes their Robocop 3 was better than the movie it was based on! 😆 Epic was great too, though its funny how much was stolen from Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek.
@ellieraeuk Oof, yeah, wholesale pillaging of BSG xD Fantastic intro, I remember my dad excitingly calling me down to watch it and being just floored by how cinematic it was.
@SharkaBytes Indeed. It was pretty much BSG: The Game, really.
@SharkaBytes I used to play that on DOS, it was a fantastic sim. And to be fair, just about every sim Digital Integrations had a hand in was good. I miss them - and BAO (the original MSFS team)

@philpem Yeah, same! DID, MicroProse, Novalogic, and Janes were the golden quadrilogy for me.

I'm glad there's a resurgence in 90s-style military sims with the reborn MicroProse putting out the kind of games they always used to and indie simulators like Helicopter Gunship DEX.

@SharkaBytes my #amiga of the time was not beefy enough to run TFX but the #msdos version was fine.
Never tried its sequel but I suppose it is even better
@SharkaBytes I note all the reviews seem to be PC ones…
@yesterzine Yeah, it's telling. It actually happens a fair bit with ads from this issue, a 1994 Amiga Action. They're generally the PC versions that are used for screenshots in them, another sign that the Amiga had fallen behind. .
@SharkaBytes And also that Amiga Action reviewed PC versions anyway ;)
