After sorting through just about every browser-based Mastodon client I could find, I can't currently recommend anything other than @elk or @phanpy.

If you want a single column, familiar interface, Elk is probably what you want to use.

If you like the option of having a column mode, or you like seeing replies attached to the original post, try Phanpy. (If you need help getting settled in with Phanpy, let me know.)

I use Phanpy, with one major gripe: no settings toggle to allow media autoplay.

If you haven't checked them out yet, elk.zone and phanpy.social are where you can find them.

If you want to try the cutting edge releases, with the risk of bugs, you can use main.elk.zone and dev.phanpy.social instead.

@tyote My one big bummer with both of those is that they don’t remember your position on the timeline. ☹️

@tyote @elk @phanpy Honestly, I'm loving Phanpy's option to turn columns into shortcuts I can swap quickly through but only have one up at a time (or as floating buttons). And I can use the same one on my phone and laptop, no re-learning.

In other words, I agree. :-)

@prysmcat Yeah, and the shortcut/column options are great so far, too. I can have a column of the Pebble local feed up on my .social account to keep an eye on it, instead of having to swap accounts.

Biggest thing to get used to has been right-clicking to interact with posts instead of having a bar under each post, unless you click the post to open it. Even that is growing on me, though.

@tyote Anything is likely to involve picking up new reflexes for common actions, and I'm not finding that one difficult to adjust to - once I realized it was a thing, which wasn't immediately obvious to me, but no big deal.
@prysmcat That's the only other caveat I've found - for a new user, going in blind has a bit more of a learning curve than default Mastodon or Elk.
