Some kind of green frozen vegetable is essential. Peas are classic. I prefer Italian green beans if I can find them.

I grew up calling it "tuna wiggle", and "wiggle" goes back a long ways (early 20th century) meaning a cream sauce with canned fish and peas. It was served over toast or crackers; I have to assume that evolved into today's noodle casserole.
