@ret @tryst I’m a very old hand, I guess then. First licenced as 2E1EJB in, I think ‘96 ish, and M1AJB in 1998, I think. Ham licence before car licence!
@bloor @ret M3 in 2004. M0 in 2016 I think. Between 2006 and 2014 I was designing and building prototypes of EW transceivers. What I don't know about DDSs isn't worth knowing, but I'll still get shouted down by the G-squad for suggesting that they might be mistaken about how a phase accumulator works.
@tryst @bloor @ret G-call here…licensed in 1993 and spent quite a while before that as a commercial operator, then quite a while after that designing and building EW-related kit.
I have never and still don’t have any issues with people younger/newer than me knowing more about stuff than I do, largely because I have a good understanding of my own limitations and am professional and friendly enough to want to learn from others.
Not all G-call holders are nobs.
@Wigglepig @bloor @ret You're not wrong. Unfortunately, it's the ones that give me hassle that tend to stick in my memory.

@Wigglepig @tryst @bloor @ret I’m a ham muggle (dads a G1, I’ve never got a licence.)

I learnt a lot as a teenager at radio competitions/meet ups on how to handle “I know all” types.

Serves me well in IT when I bump into senior “architects” who are authoritatively spouting nonsense.

They were the minority though. Most of the hams I met were grand and shared knowledge generously.
