Hawkeye: "War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse."

Father Mulcahy: "How do you figure that, Hawkeye?"

Hawkeye: "Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?"

Father Mulcahy: "Sinners, I believe."

Hawkeye: "Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell.
War is chock full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander."

@maddler
In any conflict its always the innocent civilians who suffer the most
@AutisticMumTo3 only those who know they won't be affected will want war.
@maddler
And the leaders who suffer the least or even not at all (such as Putin).

@maddler

I recently re-watched all of the seasons of M*A*S*H, and this is THE takeaway from the series.

This bit of dialogue in an episode almost exactly halfway through the series, is what M*A*S*H is all about. A comedy that makes you think. I'm so thankful for it, and the actors that delivered the lines in the scripts so well.

How brilliant to make an anti-war statement with war doctors who had a sense of humor, and a sense of morality.

The entire series of M*A*S*H is on Hulu.

Go watch.

@boelder @maddler If you haven't heard this, it's so good.

@robincapper thanks!!! Willl definitely listen!
@maddler this is still my go-to comfort series, when everything is looking bad & I just can't find the positives in life, I immerse myself in this for a few days & I feel reborn. It really is a tonic. Back when TV served a purpose & looked to be more than just a distraction from life, more than just serving up reality show fast food thinking to give us a false sense of superiority rather than force us into a deeper level of personal introspection & exploration to reflect on our own beliefs.
@maddler Just watched this episode last night
@maddler i will set my yearly reminder to again do a M. A. S. H. Rewatch.
Hawkey is such a philosopher.
Best show ever made.
