Multiple reports that Apple employees do not have confidence that their AI/ML teams will be able to build competitive AI products.

Given how bad Siri and autocorrect have been for years, I think these fears are justified.

I’ve joked that Apple should delete the Siri code and replace it with a ChatGPT wrapper. While in jest, there’s a kernel of truth there. If Microsoft can swallow its pride and partner with OpenAI, it’s foolhardy for Apple to go it alone.

Apple and AI

The anxiety inside Apple is that many people inside do not believe Apple’s own AI/ML team can deliver.

@carnage4life While I don’t disagree with those employees, Apple’s competitive advantage - privacy - is what would get me to use a subpar product if an on-device LLM is at least half as good as GPT4.

(Also I can’t believe I just typed that. We need data privacy laws so badly in this country. 🙄)
