Given the recent YouTube crackdown on AdBlocker, I hope content creators are getting better money from those forced ad views by Google. Otherwise, we will see another scandal. LOL. #google #privacy #ublock

Today I filed a formal complaint against #YouTube with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner for their illegal deployment of #adblock detection technologies. Under Article 5(3) of 2002/58/EC YouTube are legally obligated to obtain consent before storing or accessing information already stored on an end user's terminal equipment unless it is strictly necessary for the provisions of the requested service. In 2016 the EU Commission confirmed in writing that adblock detection requires consent.

@nixCraft

what's the crackdown? mine seems to be working ok on firegox tonight, but it might be that I'm watching demonetised videos because they are war news.

if i can't watch YouTube without ads i might finally stop procrastinating about subscribing to Nebula

@nixCraft I'm a youtuber and I use adblockers. The amount of ads pushed by google is unacceptable.
@nixCraft I use no script and have no problems.
My workaround was always to simply download the video or the entire playlist sometimes, with JDownloader or tools like Parabolic and NewPipe. Not really the optimal way to watch a YT video in 2023, but still the more convenient.
