HiddeI'm so sceptical of “AI”, that I often don't know where to start engaging in discusssions. I still see most praise for the latest capabilities from people who aren't asking the basic philosophical/cogsci questions that people have literally been asking for many decades.
I'm mostly very worried. Bias, energy consumption and floods of nonsense are very real risks. We should not large scale deploy code/text/image generators without assessing those risks, especially not if we haven't clearly defined problems that would be worth solving given those risks.

@davidlinssen yes, agreed! It's a lot of shouting in the void (or I get the feeling I'm ruining a party). But it's important to find ways to speak out
@hdv And to me it feels like I’m always the party pooper. ‘It’s David again talking about unintended consequences.’ Or:’Why do you always have to talk about the energy consumption, we don’t do that with Netflix either, do we?’ But I wish someone would have spoken up at AirBnB and voiced potential concerns for neighbors and communities when they still were able to mitigate some of the negative effects. And I see way more issues with AI! #Pfffffffffffffff

Jørn@hdv I try to engage in a way the other person might identify with. Our company has been talking about sustainability, so I ask how sustainable AI is.
Fast forward, they dismissed all my arguments, stating that we must continue on the current course, so AI will find the solution to it currently being unsustainable.
