about half of my colleagues at #Bandcamp just got laid off, after Epic Games sold us to Songtradr a few weeks ago

so if your company has any vacancies and you want to hire compassionate and highly-driven people, especially in any musical or altruistic tech businesses, please share your links and I'll pass them along

@stefan ah man, sorry to hear that. Solidarity.

@stefan

They didn't wait long - so sorry to hear!

@stefan I'm so sorry to hear that! Why can't anything nice be left alone?
Solidarity!
@stefan they should band together and start a competitor!
@eobet @stefan band together and start a whole new camp?

@stefan No,not Bandcamp! Where will I go for niche game soundtracks …

Crossing fingers for your colleagues.

@stefan Well High Time to find another place to support the artists without supporting terrible companies at the same time. I'm definitely not gonna give my money to these evil f*ckers.....real sad and angry about all this...... dammit
@stefan

I'm really sorry to hear about this. It's not a good sign that the company is going to be well managed.

Where in the world are you? Which countries and timezones will you and your colleagues want to work in? Can you say anything about the skills they have and the kind of jobs they're looking for?

The more information you can provide, the more likely someone will bite.

I'm boosting and adding #GetFediHired for visibility.
Akkoma

@CppGuy @stefan

epic just wanted to add value by cutting the bottom line instantly. cheesy investment fund move to do before a quick sale.

@stefan fuck. Sorry to read that. What's the union going to do now?

@stefan

If any of them are London-based, then there's some good suggestions here:

https://www.uk.coop/news/innovative-projects-announced-co-op-hackathon

A musician-owned co-operative version of BandCamp would be a great option, and you already have the skills. :D

Innovative projects announced for the Co-op Hackathon

Co-operators will work on a wide range of tech ideas at the event – and there’s still time to register to take part using your digital skills to collaboratively develop the ideas.

Also get in touch with CoTech:

They look for all kinds of skills and do remote.

@stefan I suggest editing your post and adding what country you are living in.
@stefan it's annoying how people and their livelihoods can just be sold like that

@stefan Uggg, I like using bandcamp for the artists, but if they're going to pull this BS ...

What's the new best way to support artists that doesn't put money in the pockets of billionaires?

@avatastic @stefan Most artists also have merch available directly through their websites and/or FB profiles, so you should still be able buy merch from most bands. Unfortunately most of what folks will lose if Bandcamp shits the bed are the social aspects of music discovery, but merch sales will always be a thing for bands one way or another.
@stefan I'm so sorry to hear 💔

@stefan If any of them would like to start something new (even unfunded) resources can be made available for a startup. Plus I know a guy who needs some web work that could turn into a longer gig for the right person or people. Mail [email protected] for more info.

@stefan we are not in the music industry but lots of folks at work love Bandcamp and independent music in general, me included. Most our current open positions are in the UK but there are a few in the US too: https://careers.kaluza.com/open-jobs

@stefan sad to hear that’s happened.
It’s a shame. Bandcamp is the best store for DRM-free music that I know of, but it won’t be able to stay that way if the people who made it great in the first place are shown the door.

@stefan ouch, that sucks big time, so sorry that the situation went bad so quickly!

Anyhoo, while I don't know how likely the positions would appeal to ex-Bandcamp folks, we have a few openings, but at the moment we are actively looking for people who would fit in our WebKit team, so sharing just in case: https://www.igalia.com/jobs/open/ — we are a remote friendly, worker owned coop, working on FLOSS technologies at many levels of the software stack.
