This is going to be unpopular.

I keep seeing people say they're shocked how anti-Indigenous Australia is, and when I go look at their profiles they all have "leftist" written.

You all need to understand what this means for how your leftism is tied in to white supremacy.

If you're shocked to find out that a colonised country is racist, you haven't been listening.

If your leftist selves haven't been listening to Indigenous people on this Stolen Land, you're leaning into white supremacy.

@aby You also are nicely isolated in a bubble both social and internet that makes you think Australians are less racist than they actually are. Like when internet bubbles gave Berners in the US the delusion that it was impossible for him to lose because everyone they knew liked him, oblivious to the fact of how many Americans even democrats still feared the word socialism caused by 50 years of brainwashing about it. Luckily many of them bounced back from this.
@aby I don't think I meant you. You saw this coming
@anubis2814 - thanks for clarifying. I get confused by the "general you" vs "specific you".
@anubis2814 I'm not sure who you are addressing here

@whatshisays @anubis2814

I took Anubis's use of the word "you" to refer to the same "you" as in your post, i.e. the shocked reader you were addressing

@anubis2814 @aby

To set the record straight, Bernie would have trounced trump if he hadn't been cheated out of the nomination by "it's my turn" Hillary.

Bernie won every county here in MN, yet Al Franken gave our Bernie votes to Hillary. Happened in other states as well.

As further evidence, even the talking heads/news stations were calling it for him right before the convention. πŸ‘‡

We have Hillary to thank for trump.

@504DR @aby That's called party rules. Enough feared the appearance of socialism. Looks like you didn't bounce back and still believe they cheated him

@anubis2814 @aby

Didn't bother watching the vid, huh?

We told y'all Hillz couldn't win; too much baggage and too many ppl hate her.

If you watched the convention and the shenanigans the dnc pulled, you'd know he was cheated - unless you are so blindly loyal the truth eludes you.
I can't help you with that. 🀷

@504DR @anubis2814 - it's really gross of you to sidetrack this post with American issues.

Not everything written on the internet is about America.

Go away now.

@aby @anubis2814

I'll always correct the record when it comes to ppl lying about Bernie, especially about 2016 that gave us trump in the WH.
Sorry that offended you.
I'll be off your timeline now.

@anubis2814

Yes, the same party rules that have held back fresh, new candidates for decades now to protect the seats of the corp controlled Dems now in power.

How's that working out for America?

The Dem Party lost so many members after 2016, and they still haven't recovered that membership.

Good plan. πŸ™„

Btw - only cowards and those unsure of their argument block or mute after commenting on a post.
Just saying. 🀷

@aby I have watched "leftists" in the US and UK and there are those that do not live up to the progressive values. 2016 exposed the deep seated misogyny in the US and the xenophobia in the UK.
@ZillaMon @aby same. You know how many leftists run around without masks? You can't pretend to care about the marginalized and be ok with spreading a virus so devastating to people with existing disabilities and vulnerabilities.it makes the world inaccessible to them

@aby

Appalled; yes. Dismayed; check. Disappointed; definitely.

Surprised; no.

@aby I think that you have the correct take on this, but then I don't see a path to act on it. Yes, the US is entirely composed of land stolen from under the feet of people who were already living here when white settlers arrived. How do we address that now?

@wolleysegap - Land Back.

Also, not everything written on the internet is about America.

But if you're so concerned (and you should be), google the Nation you're on + Land Back and see what the Sovereign custodians of that land want you to do.

@aby Will do. Thank you
@aby Now do the U.S.
@MHowell - what do you mean?
@aby I was suggesting that the same anti-indigenous colonial racist biases exist in leftists in the U.S.
@MHowell - definitely. I think it's an issue with non-Indigenous leftists globally.

@aby You can call it socialism or left leaning but what this referendum shows is both the overwhelming meanness of 2/3 Australians and/or the gullibility that they believed the dross swilling around social media.

An educated, empathetic and open minded population wouldn't have voted this way.

@Godfrey642 - it shows us much more than that.

It shows that Australia is not only deeply rooted in a racist system, ALL of it's leaders have every intention to stay there.

Otherwise we'd have Treaty, and it wouldn't be business for colonisers to be voting on. If the government was truly concerned about equality of Aboriginal people, there would be movement towards Land Back and recognising our Sovereignty.

@aby Yes I agree. Reparations need to be paid. So much harm needs to be fixed.
Highly highly ironic that one of the (fake) arguments from the No campaign was that "First Nations would take back ppls homes and gardens".
And that upset them.. jeez. WTF.

Do they have ANY idea what happened over the last 200yrs ???

You're also right of course about the main parties in Australia. If they were TRUTHful and committed to Treaty, you have to wonder how many of the 97% of colonisers would vote for them?? So they would forever be in opposition and therefore never in a position to enact policy.

Im angry to the core about the racism on every level that ppl have just voted to keep exactly as it is.
Im so sorry.

@aby That’s such an obnoxious comments section under this spot-on post, I’m so sorry you have to deal with all this bullshit flooding your mentions.
@aby
I'm not in the least surprised. I worked at an Australian university for a year. I was appalled by the casual racism, including antisemitism expounded in the staff common room.
