Friendly reminder to not buy Meta/Facebook/Oculus VR headsets. Their headsets have become increasingly uncomfortable as time goes on, their long term support stops when the next headset is announced, and their actual support staff is so efficient they'll close the ticket after the first email without doing anything useful. #Meta #MetaQuest #MetaQuest2 #MetaQuest3 #Facebook #Oculus #VR #ImJustRealFuckingPissedRightNow

@AyotoCorp What are you talking about? They door support Quest 1 a really long time after Quest 2 was released. Many of the improvements in the OS also came to Q1. But it has a really old chipset already when launched. With Q2 and Q3 they are using the very latest XR2 chipset available, making it easier to support the headset for a longer time.

@jonassandstedt Maybe my memory is tainted, but I recall the Quest 1 getting basically dropped in the trash as soon as the Quest 2 was announced. System updates did continue to come out, but functionality kept getting removed piece by piece as things "upgraded out" of being usable on it.

Also I'm still angry about my CV1's un-replaceable cable.

@AyotoCorp I remember it wasn't that bad. But to be fair. All first gen consumer electronics usually gets deprecated quite fast. iPhone 1, Bose first speakers, Fairphone 1 compare to their latest one etc etc. It's hard to make the right choices the first time around. And maintaining the codebase for those first gen devices is hard. But would have preferred that Meta would unlock the bootloader and other resources on their non supported devices at least, so the community can take over.
